These fruits are the last to fall from trees that vanished after destructive changes in their space. New trees can be planted again, but the last fruits from the fallen ones will remain precious and invaluable.
They emerge as symbols of an unnoticed loss, recreated in a hyperbolized form, embroidered with glass beads and shimmering threads. Unlike real fruits, they can be taken, returned to the site of destruction, or shown to others. This is a gesture of appropriation and reclaiming control, a way of rethinking a space that will never return to its original state.
The audio component of the installation was created after the sculptures were brought to a destroyed park in Zaporizhzhia — not far from the current home of the artist. During a morning shoot, as the fruits lay on the scarred ground, the sounds of the city blended with distant, muffled artillery strikes a few kilometers away. These explosions very similar to the sound of fruit falling from a tree.
In the audio piece created by Vlad Novak, the sounds of falling and destruction merge. They can no longer be distinguished from one another — instead, they fuse into a single sonic environment that surrounds these last remaining fruits.
